Axis of Oversteer
Now, call us cynical skeptics, but so far we have not seen evidence that satisfies us one way or the other about the GT-R and other cars it has been compared to. "Godzilla the Giantkiller"is just too good a magazine selling headline not to be taken with a grain of salt. There have been many tests but none have had the level of detail or transparency to convince us fully.Theres the challenge. Now why are they picking the GT2 Porsche vs the 911 ? Why pick the rear wheel drive - $190,000 car vs the $70,000 GT-R ? Unbiased ?
So here is what we propose: Axis of Oversteer will supply a Porsche GT2 and we make an open call to curious owners of a Nissan GT-R to provide Godzilla for head-to-head testing.
So how would this work? Obviously this would be in consultation with with the GT-R owner but the main goal is to eliminate as many variables as possible.
Here are the basic points:
1. Cars will be tested on the same day, under the same conditions.
2. Cars should be stock (disclaimer: CG installed rear seats in his GT2).
3. Both cars will carry data loggers and video cameras.
4. All results will be made available on our site.
5. We are based in NYC so testing would be at one of our local tracks, to be determined.

thank you for posting this, the reason why a GT2 is simple, that's what we have. The car is not a Porsche loaner, it a store bought, as they come from the factory (save for the added rear seats), Hopefully we can find a similar GtR.
The GTR has compared well in mags with the GT3 and even with the GT2 (albeit in the wet).
In the now infamous Porsche complaint, 'ring tomes betweeen the gt2 and the Turbo were surprisingly close, and both substantially slower than what Nissan claimed for the GT3.
We'll keep an open mind and stay transparent with the numbers.

What tires are the GT2 on ?
If you want true equalization of variables. Have them both run on the same brand tires. Period. It's no secret that many high-performance sports cars are now running special "OEM" tires, Porsche included.
GT2 comes stock with Pilot Cup. On paper it should destroy the GT-R, but all signs point to that not being the case. we want to see it with our own eyes and try to understand why.... any takers out there?
The GT-R comes with Dunlop Summers, Dunlop All Season and Bridgestone Summers.
To compare apples to apples, the GT-R should be on Dunlop Summers.
Pilot Sport Cups don't come in the right sizes in a 20 for a GT-R. Only a 245 and a 315 is available. A GT-R is a 255 on the front and 285 on the rear stock.
I would love to see the GT-R on the Pilot Sport Cup, its a serious tire. More serious than the Dunlop summer.
the GT-R R35 doesnt work on pilot sport cups. neoseven a forum member of nagtroc already tried these. it was a failure. the R35 doesnt need something that sticky. in fact thats probably going to make it worse for the car.
This Same Day, Same Driver Test has already been done numerous times. For Example, Road and Track just did a big comparison test which was won by the Viper ACR followed by the Gallarado, so the headline cheating thesis doesn't bear. Road and Track's GT-R times at Willow Spring have since been backed up by my own stock car and seriously bested by the COBB tunning GT-R, whith both cars besting the TechArt Porsche 997 Turbo GT-Street by significant margin.
The only thing that makes sense is to test them with the tires they come with
