Motor Trend put a 2015 Nissan GT-R though its paces, and let us know their first thoughts. There are about 60 or 70 2015 NISMO's coming to the US. At $149,990 it is far and beyond the most expensive Nissan ever sold in the US. While this is a version of the car that did the 7:08 Nurburgring time, it is the tamer version.

"I think it would be faster, but it needs thicker tires," Randy continued. "They're not extreme enough … I didn't get (brake) fade. I just didn't have enough bite."

600 horsepower, and 481 lb-ft of torque, but on 93 octane fuel. Here in California we only have 91, so the power seems like it might be slightly off.

Yet the heart doesn't feel like it corrals 600 horses. As our Carlos Lago quipped, "Maybe my butt dyno is off, but this doesn't feel like 600 ponies." The probable culprit is California's 91 octane. The GT-R Nismo operates best when swigging fuel rated at 93 and above. Annoying? Most definitely.

2.9 0-60 mph. 11.1@125 mph in the quarter. It looks like the car didn't like 91 octane much. Would some 93 drop it into the 10's? With a soft 0-60 time, the quarter mile time will also suffer. On the skidpad, the car did 1.06 g, and in Motor Trends figure 8 test, the NISMO was half a second faster than the Track Pack.

Still, this is a GT-R. You know, the one with a 7-minute, 8.679-second record on the 'Ring. It demolished a quarter-mile in 11.1 seconds at 125.3 mph and stuck to our skidpad with an average 1.06g load -- the gummiest GT-R ever. (This includes the 800-horsepower AMS Alpha 9 we tested a few years ago.) Around our telling figure-eight course, it earned a best-for-GT-R 22.9 seconds lap time at an average 0.91 g. Last year's Track Pack did it in 23.4 seconds at an average 0.89 g. Stick is the Nismo's overarching specialty.

With the stock bigger turbos, plus some better fuel, lots more power potential should be on tap. Square up the tires, and the NISMO should be even quicker, and faster. Tune a tuned car?
